Caps for CURE

Let's Finish Strong!

This week is our annual Caps for CURE fundraiser and it's been fun to see the interesting hats being worn on campus!

Caps for CURE is a school-wide event benefiting CURE Childhood Cancer, a non-profit organization dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through targeted research while supporting patients and their families.

Students may make a one-time $5 donation for the privilege of wearing a cap or hat to school each day next week (September 11 - 15)!  Additionally, all donations of any size are appreciated whether you choose to don a cap or not!  Lower School students may pay their teachers and Upper School students will pay their first block teachers

Las year WCA raised an amazing $1,602 and we'd love to surpass this amount with this year's giving.  Thank you in advance of your support of this most noble cause!

Connection Cafe

For New Families

Our first Connection Cafe for the year will be next Friday, September 15th at 7:55 am in the Tech Lab.  The focus of this Connection Cafe will be topics particularly geared to families that are new to WCA.  So if this is your first year here, start your Friday by joining Mr. Clark for a cup of coffee and conversation!

Grandparents Day 2023

Grandparents Day 2023 will be celebrated on Friday, September 22nd, from 9 until 11 am. This event is a wonderful time to welcome these special members of our community to campus and share our school with them.

When you arrive at 9 am:

Meet in the gym if your grandchild's LAST name begins with A-L.

Meet in the classroom if your grandchild's LAST name begins with M-Z.

After your visit:

Please feel free to check out with your grandchild(ren) when you are finished with your campus visit.  Officially, lower school students are dismissed at 11:30, but you may sign them out with their teacher earlier if you'd like.  Enjoy going to lunch, spending time together, and thank you for sharing your time with us!

We look forward to celebrating this day with you and yours!

Dress Code for Grandparents Day

In honor of Grandparents Day, we ask that all elementary school students wear Monday – Thursday uniform attire.  Casual Friday and Spirit Wear Friday are suspended for this day.  Thank you for your assistance to help us look our best for our guests!

Grandparents Day, Friday, September 22nd, classes are cancelled and it will be an official day off for all WCA upper school students in grades 6 - 12.  This simplifies activities on campus for Grandparents Day and allows us to have additional parking available for our guests.  So, enjoy the early start to your weekend!

It's Never Too Early to Plan

PSAT & SAT Testing

Remember to download Bluebook to your student's computer!

The CollegeBoard is slowly moving all testing to digital devices.  This year our students will take the PSAT (grades 8-11) and SAT School Day (grades 10-11) on a personal device.

In preparation for PSAT day on October 5th, you may  download the Bluebook™ app now and start learning how it works.  You can run the Bluebook™ testing app on a Windows or Mac device, an iPad. Please know that no Chromebooks are allowed.

We will do a schoolwide test the week of September 18th.  Please have devices and Bluebook installed by the 18th.

Basketball Cheerleading

It's time to start organizing for this year's basketball cheerleading teams.  If you have a Middle School or High School student who is interested in participating in cheering, please follow this link and complete the “Cheerleading Interest Form”.  There will be an organizational meeting and tryouts on Monday, October 2nd at 6 pm.  It's going to be a great season of Basketball Cheer at WCA!  Questions? WCA Swim Team

Interest Meeting Thursday, September 14th

Can you believe it's that time of year to be thinking about Winter Sports?  If your student is interested in being a part of the WCA Swim Team, please email Robyn Beall at rbeall@wcalions.org to let her know.  There will be an informational meeting Thursday, September 14th at 6:00pm in the Tech Lab in the Administration Building.  There you can learn about the team, our coaches and the practice and meet schedules.

Competitive swim is an excellent way to stay in shape and learn a lifelong sport!  Even if you do not have any experience in swimming competitively, come on out and with the right attitude, we can teach you!

Lower School Basketball Leagues

It’s exciting to think we are a little more than a month away from basketball starting and Winter Sports getting into full swing. Each year WCA participates in the NE Georgia Feeder League and the Athens Premier League with our Lower school students. The NE Georgia Feeder League is the lower school girls league. The Athens Premier League is the lower school boys league.

Sign ups are now open and will be available until Monday, September 25th.

Questions?  Please contact Callie Barnes.
